The GSh-6 sealed helmet with a folding visor has a number of advantages over the GSh-4 helmet. It lacks a rubber liner and uses a special cervical sealing valve. The visor does not require any special suspension and can be opened and closed with one hand.

The light filter is located inside the helmet, as a result of which the probability of its damage during operation is significantly reduced. To create the best hygienic conditions for the pilot's head (removing water vapor and flushing out carbon dioxide from the under-helmet space), a helmet ventilating device was used, which supplies a gas mixture to the main aircraft, the percentage of oxygen in which depends on the flight altitude. This gas mixture is produced in the oxygen regulator. In a helmet with a rotating neck ring, a sealing flap is placed between the ring and the neck.

With this design, the helmet can be easily removed and put on again, which is very convenient when the pilot is on duty in readiness, which does not provide for an immediate departure. With overpressure, a relatively large upward force acts on the helmet, which tends to tear the helmet off the head (with an overpressure of 0.2 atm, this force is approximately 70 kg).

A pull-up system is used to hold the helmet on the head. It consists of a steel cable, which is thrown over hinge rollers attached to the helmet, and a nylon tape sewn to the suit. The pull-up system is adjustable in length by pulling the braid. GSh-6 Hermetic helmet ensures the life of the pilot during high-altitude flights and protects against aerodynamic loads during ejection. Height of application is up to 40,000 meters.

The GSh-6 helmet is perfect and comfortable. When worn on the head, it is attached to a ring connected to a separate neck cuff - on the ground, while waiting for a flight, the helmet can be removed. It is also more convenient to open and close the visor. Such helmets were used primarily on high-altitude interceptors such as the MiG-25 and MiG-31. There is no light filter and a mechanism for its lowering, see photo 7.8.
