Soviet Air Force ZSH-5A flight helmet in Operational Condition
Flight helmet, probably in Operational Condition. Very rarely will you find this helmet offered in this condition. This was easily the best he had.

I had to pay extra and now, if you are a serious collector, you can benefit. The only small flaws on the helmet are a few superficial cracks in the Gelcoat, in the two lower, anterior lobes. These cracks do not go into the fiberglass and could easily be rendered invisible by any auto body shop.

Other than that, the helmet is in superb condition. You will notice that it also has the visor quick-release assembly on the left temporal area. Most helmets offered do not have this, and you will not find it available separately. Naturally, it works, but I think it is better to lower the visor with its integral visor-release catch. The quick-release deploys the heavy visor in a fraction of a second for emergencies perhaps?

With resultant unnecessary stress on its mountings. In fact, I think that is the reason for the cracks in the Gelcoat. The visor has three positions. The UV visor has some superficial surface blemishes, but these could be polished out with the correct compound. As you can see from the photographs (more available on request) the helmet exterior and interior is in superb condition.

The anti G-force air bladder at the nape of the neck, holds pressure. The helmet comes complete with the neck contact microphone and oxygen mask, with its various connections, one of which connects to the anti G-force pressure pad. The chamois leather lining to the earphones is soft and intact, and the kid-leather to the microphone is butter soft. Apologies to my Ukranian vendor colleagues! I have not yet determined the mailing cost.

It will be at actual cost and should be much less than the hundred bucks normally charged to bring one of these helmets from Ukraine or Russia. In other words, your total cost for this US-based superior quality helmet will probably be about the same as a lesser quality one from behind the old iron curtain. If you dont know what that means, ask your grandfather!

BTW - The helmets and other military paraphernalia from Ukraine are all good value I have bought from there myself - but for one lucky person, this helmet is the best you will find.
